I'm starting this post late at night, so the quality might be low. Just figure it out. Spoiler, I might figure it out in the end!
I, technically a "musician" (bass n keys) do not consider myself to be one. I've recognized this, and it puzzled me. I consider members of a symphony or an orchestra to be musicians, along with people that I see in rock bands and experimental ambient whatever bands. But not me, nor my amigos (except Drew for some reason). I don't know why...I play instruments with a bunch of people and don't really see them as musicians.
Wait.
Maybe because...
Normal person + musician = [still a] normal person
Maybe
What is...
Musician + normal person might have a predominant quality as a musician, with a "normal person" quality that one might read about, but might not relate to as much. Much less personal.
Maybe....
and because I don't have any personal connections with people in symphonies or orchestras, nor in real rock bands (or at least remotely famous ones) my prejudice immediately associates those who ARE in groups like these with the main action that these people do: perform music. Therefore, they are musicians rather than people who enjoy cherry tomatoes or watch too much dr who or live lives like normally (relative to me and those around me).
I don't know. I should post this in a month or so, just because.
