Review of: ROAD BLASTER

Yesterday I was thinking "What games should I get?". I ended up getting one that I had been thinking about for a little bit...called Road Blaster. I had played some of Revolutionary Concepts other games like Karate Champ, and Cobra Command, so this game had to be retro. This game also reminded me of Cobra Command, but with cars, and better, so if you liked that game, or thought that it could be a little better, then try Road Blaster out.

This game is from 1985 (wow soooo old!) and is a port from the Sega CD. When you start playing there's a beginning cut scene that explains why this game exists, so watch it. Also, when playing the controls suck unless you change them to tilt, then the game is just fine...ANYWAYS...

When you start playing the actual game, you are in a car, with lights flashing which way to tilt, of if you should boost or brake. You have to react fast, otherwise an explosion kill you and make you have to start from the last checkpoint. Those are basically the controls, and make sure to change them in the options menu first, otherwise everything gets frustrating and impossible.

The game is pretty much like an interactive cartoon with great graphics. You try to make it past other "enemy" cars and make it to the end of the level. You get 5 tries to make it past the constant explosions and other cars and make it to the end of the level. After that you unlock one of the 9 levels, which you can play on easy, normal, or hard.

That is a down side. To master this game, all you really have to do is stare at the arrows and quickly respond, ignoring the fantastic artwork that's at the top half of the screen. So if you decide to buy this game, don't use that stupid hint I just gave you.

Overall, this game is pretty good, especially if you like retro 80's games. The music you think "OH YEAH!!!" and you should probably get it now while it's ON SALE (as of right now). If you don't know if you should get it, and want to see something...here's the trailer:

This game deserves an 8/10, because of it's awesome gameplay/artwork, but it's repetition harms it if you really suck at a level. Revolutionary Concepts did a really good job porting this to the iPhone and iPod touch.
